Superintendent's Weekly Memo - October 18, 2024

Superintendent's Weekly Memo - October 18, 2024
Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent, Superintendent

Dear Mustang Families,

As the leaves begin to fall from our beautiful surroundings in Middlesex County, so too are the temperatures in the morning. We encourage parents and caregivers to be mindful of the weather while preparing your children for school. Sweatshirts and light jackets are layers that keep students warm on the way to school and comfortable in the classroom.

Students in our Roberts Elementary Schools have been embracing the October mornings during Walking Wednesdays! Throughout the month, students who typically ride the bus have been meeting up with their peers at designated meeting points to walk to school. We love celebrating opportunities for students and members of our Mustang Community to come together!

Today’s Memo includes:

  • Winter Sports Registration Underway
  • College Fair And Information Session to Be Held on Wednesday
  • Events for All Ages at Medford Family Network
  • Job Openings
  • Upcoming Events

Winter Athletics Registration Now Open

Our student athletes have achieved record-breaking performances and even Greater Boston League (GBL) conference championships this fall. Congratulations to our Middle School baseball, softball and cross country teams, along with our High School golf team, for earning conference crowns. While we eagerly await seeing how the rest of the fall season plays out, it’s not too early to think about what’s next!

Registration for winter sports tryouts is now open to all middle school and high school students. We offer a wide variety of sports to our students, including basketball, hockey, indoor track, cheerleading, gymnastics, swimming, and wrestling.

Visit Here to register for tryouts ahead of the Nov. 18 deadline. As a reminder, all athletes must complete the online registration and provide an up-to-date physical (within 13 months) to the nurses office before tryouts.

College Fair And Information Session To Be Held On Wednesday

Join us next Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Medford High School for our College and Career Night!

Our annual College Fair for all middle and high school students and families will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Medford High School Gymnasium. Over 75 colleges and programs will be in attendance, including 4-year universities, community colleges, military programs, and others.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Room B319, MHS will also be hosting a college information session for students with IEP’s and 504 Accommodation Plans. Attendees will be able to hear from Guest Speaker Hannah Kaplan Huynh, Assistant Director for the Ross Center for Disability Services at UMass - Boston, about the college application process and the difference in services offered between high school and college among other important topics.

Events For All Ages at Medford Family Network

With over 30 years of service to the Medford Community, the Medford Family Network has been a terrific partner in providing countless opportunities to our youngest members of Mustang Nation and the surrounding community.

Tomorrow night at the Elks Function Hall, Friends of the MFN will be holding their annual Gala fundraiser in support of the MFN. The event is aimed at adults, and while costumes are encouraged, they are not required. Visit Here to get your tickets to the event before it’s too late.

The MFN is also once again hosting their annual Dress Up and Costume Swap until Thursday, Oct. 31! Community members can visit the MFN Family Center at MHS to donate gently used or new costumes or come and take what you need for your family. There are a wide variety of sizes available in excellent condition. Visit Here to learn more information.
