Superintendent's Weekly Memo - December 6, 2024

Superintendent's Weekly Memo - December 6, 2024
Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent, Superintendent

Dear Mustang Families,

By now you may have seen the announcement made today that the Medford School Committee and I have mutually agreed to part ways. Serving as the Superintendent of Schools for the past seven years in the same community I was raised in has been such a blessing.

There are so many people throughout Mustang Nation to thank. Thank you to our wonderful families and caregivers for being invested in your child’s education. Thank you to our city leaders, elected officials, administrators, educators, and staff members for the dedication, passion, and enthusiasm for learning you show towards our students. Lastly, thank you to our students. Whether you have graduated since I started or are in the classroom for the first time this year, your kindness, commitment, and care for your fellow Mustangs are the true bedrock of this community.

As the first woman and person of color to assume the role of Medford Superintendent of Schools, I am forever grateful for the opportunity to have served this city. I, too, am Medford.

My last day will be January 17, 2025, and I look forward to collaborating with the district during the transition period. Visit Here for the full communication.

Ernie Boch Jr. Donates $60k Worth of Music Equipment to Roberts ES

Thank you so much to Ernie Boch Jr. and the Music Drives Us organization for their wonderful gift of music equipment to the Roberts Elementary School worth an estimated $60,000!

The donated musical equipment includes new violins, ukuleles, performance risers, a U1 piano, an outdoor keyboard and more. The generous gift, celebrated at the Roberts on Thursday, is one of the largest donations ever given to a public school in the organization’s history.

As part of the ceremony, Ernie Boch Jr., the Music Drives Us team, city leaders, and district administrators were treated to delightful musical performance by Roberts students. There was even local media on hand to share about the great day (Boston 25, WBZ Radio). The Roberts School community is so grateful for these instruments and is looking forward to performing with this new beautiful musical equipment!

Band & Orchestra Concerts To Be Held Next Week at MHS

Continuing to shine a light on the magnificent arts program here in Medford, our wonderful band and orchestra students are gracing the stage next week for their annual winter concerts!

Band students will dazzle audiences on Wednesday, Dec. 11, and the beautiful Mustang orchestra will perform the following day on Thursday, Dec. 12. Both shows will be held in the Caron Theater at Medford High School, with tickets available at the door for $5.

As a reminder, the Medford Band Parent Organization continues their 10th Annual Christmas Tree and Holiday Wreath Sale this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Medford High School parking lot. Tree prices range from $85-$105 depending on size. My daughter and I got our Christmas tree from them last weekend, and now it is standing and shining brightly in my home. Additional fundraiser dates, while supplies last, include Saturday Dec. 14 and Sunday Dec. 15.

AP Italian Students Earn Regional Recognition

Congratulations to Medford High School students Shayan Chowdhury, Claire Gingo, Angel Huang and Maggie Fowler for recently being recognized at the Italian Consulate annual awards ceremony!

The students earned the award for their short film of a dramatic reading of “La Ragazza Con Lo Zaino Verde,” a book read by their AP Italian class. They were joined by students across New England at the ceremony, ranging in grade level from elementary school to college. As part of their recognition, our Mustang students shared a glass plaque, a certificate, and were given a gift card to the I AM Books international bookstore in Boston.

Thank you to all of the dedicated teachers and department leaders for presenting these wonderful opportunities to Medford students!
