Joint Statement From The Medford School Committee and Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent
MEDFORD - The Medford School Committee and Superintendent Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent have announced their mutual agreement that the Superintendent’s contract will conclude on January 17, 2025.
Dr. Edouard-Vincent has led the Medford Public Schools since July 1, 2018, leading the district through some of the most challenging times in education in recovering from the impacts of COVID-19 and a return to full-time in-person learning.
“We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Edouard-Vincent for her dedicated and tireless work on behalf of our students, staff, and families for the last seven years. She is a champion for our students. Her leadership guided the district toward our collective goals, including cultivating an equitable, inclusive, rigorous, and innovative learning environment. Dr. Edouard-Vincent’s accomplishments are numerous and include bringing high-quality curricula to our students, a commitment to data-driven decision-making, successfully navigating a complex set of needs as we responded to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, improving the consistency of communication, and creating a collaborative and representative approach to hiring future district leaders.” said Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn on behalf of the entire Medford School Committee.
The Medford Public Schools serve over 4,000 children across four Pre-K - Grade 5 schools, two Middle Schools, Medford High School, which contains a combined traditional and vocational high school, and Curtis-Tufts High School. Before assuming the role of Superintendent in Medford, Dr. Edouard-Vincent spent over 24 years in various education and leadership roles in the Boston Public School System. She is in the last year of a four-year contract with Medford Public Schools that ends on June 30, 2025.
"It has been an honor and a blessing to serve the Medford Community as Superintendent of Schools these past seven years," said Dr. Edouard-Vincent. "During my time as Superintendent, I have worked collaboratively with our administrative and city leaders to advance the Medford Public Schools forward. We created the district's first-ever strategic plan built on the pillars of the ACES (Achievement, Collaboration, Equity, Support), resulting in improved academic, social and emotional learning outcomes for all students. As the first woman and person of color to assume the role of Medford Superintendent of Schools, I will always be thankful for the opportunity to serve alongside passionate administrators, educators, and staff in the same community I was raised in. I look forward to collaborating with the district during this transition period."
The Medford School Committee will meet on December 11, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. in a remote meeting to appoint an interim Superintendent effective January 17, 2025. Details of the meeting will be posted, in accordance with the Open Meeting Law, by close of business on Monday, December 9, 2025. The School Committee will meet in early 2025 to discuss a timeline and process regarding the permanent appointment of a Superintendent.
